ILOILO City – Homegrown technologies developed in Western Visayas are being positioned for wider commercialization and investment opportunities.

Regional inventors, universities and entrepreneurs prepare to showcase their innovations at the 2026 National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) in General Santos City from November 25 to 29.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 6 is organizing a delegation aimed at bringing locally developed technologies beyond regional exhibitions and connecting their creators with potential investors, industry partners and national markets.

DOST-6 regional director Engr. Rowen Gelonga said the participation would focus on promoting practical innovations, expanding commercial networks and opening opportunities for technology transfer.

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and academic institutions will join the delegation to present their innovations and explore potential partnerships.

The initiative builds on the region’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Week held in Kalibo, Aklan, in October, where locally developed technologies were highlighted.

The regional delegation’s participation comes as Malacañang directed national government agencies, government-owned or -controlled corporations, state universities and colleges, and other government instrumentalities to fully support the nationwide event.

Memorandum Circular No. 138, signed by authority of the President on October 19, 2026, also encourages local government units, research institutions and private companies to participate.

Expenses for government participation will be charged against existing available appropriations, subject to budgeting, accounting and auditing rules.

This year’s NSTW carries the theme “Siyensya, Teknolohiya at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Kinabukasan,” with emphasis on digital innovation, food security, sustainable energy and national resilience./PN
