WV logging 1K COVID cases daily; Active cases now over 16,000

ILOILO City – Western Visayas was recording an average of 1,014 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) daily in the past four days.

The highest new cases logged in a single day was 1,078 on Sept. 16, followed by the 1,075 on Sept. 17, based on the COVID-19 Regional Health Bulletin of the Department of Health (DOH) in Region 6.

On Sept. 18 and 19, the region listed 850 and 1,055 additional cases, respectively.  

Total active coronavirus cases in the region now stood at 16,419.

The provinces of Iloilo and Negros Occidental had the highest number of active cases at 6,388 and 2,798, respectively.

Iloilo City closely followed with 2,344 active cases; Bacolod City (1,903); Capiz (1,036); Guimaras (761); Antique (712); and Aklan (477).

As of Sept. 19, of the 121,119 cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the region, 101,857 recovered while 2,814 died.

The regional health department, as of Sept. 16, classified Guimaras, Bacolod City and Iloilo city and province as “high risk” or under Alert Level 4 due to the high incidence of COVID cases.

Data also showed that the health care utilization (HCUR) of the said areas – Guimaras at 81.81 percent, Iloilo (71.74), Bacolod City (73.50), and Iloilo City (73.90) – were at “high risk”.

Meantime, the province of Negros Occidental was on Alert Level 3 (moderate risk) while Aklan, Antique and Capiz were on Alert Level 2 or low risk.

The region, as a whole, was on a high risk classification with 64.22 percent HCUR./PN
