ILOILO City – Western Visayas logged 19 deaths due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) yesterday, June 8, bringing the region’s total death toll to 1,230.
This is so far the highest number of COVID deaths recorded in a single day in the region since the start of the pandemic.
Of the provinces and highly urbanized cities in the region, Negros Occidental had the highest COVID death toll at 297 followed by Bacolod City with 274, the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 reported.
Iloilo City had 217 COVID deaths, Iloilo province (208), Capiz (108), Antique (58), and Aklan (57), the report added.
As of yesterday, Region 6 had 9,173 total active cases of COVID-19, including the 473 new reported cases.
However, 440 more COVID-19 patients have recovered from the disease (as of yesterday), bringing the region’s total recoveries to 41,515.
