ILOILO — Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from Western Visayas brought home top honors from the recently concluded Bagong Pilipinas National Trade Fair 2026 held February 18–22 at SM Megamall.
Among 335 exhibitors from across the country, Bandiola Piña Weaving of Banga, Aklan emerged as the Top Seller Awardee, posting the highest gross sales nationwide during the five-day event.
The Aklanon weaving enterprise, known for its piña textiles rooted in heritage craftsmanship, was also nominated for the Most Innovative MSME award—marking a record-breaking performance for the region’s traditional weaving industry.
Meanwhile, Iloilo Capiz Shells Flowers and Antiques of Iloilo City secured third place in the Most Innovative MSME (Non-Food Category). The Ilonggo-based enterprise was recognized for its creative fusion of traditional capiz shell materials and artisan antiques, showcasing innovation anchored on cultural heritage.
The Department of Trade and Industry–Western Visayas (DTI-6) said the victories are not only a triumph for the individual entrepreneurs but also for the region’s broader economy.
According to DTI-6, the achievements highlight how tradition, when strengthened by innovation and product quality, can compete and excel on the national stage. The agency added that the recognition also reflects the collective efforts of farmers, weavers, artisans, and other stakeholders who form part of the MSME value chain.
Aside from strong retail sales, the Western Visayas delegation also secured high-value institutional linkages during the trade fair, further boosting market opportunities for local products.
Regional trade officials lauded all participating MSMEs, noting that their success has effectively placed Western Visayas in the national spotlight and reinforced its reputation as a hub of culture-driven innovation and enterprise./PN
