ILOILO City – New year celebration was generally peaceful as no major incidents were recorded across Western Visayas, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

PRO-6 director Brigadier General Jack Wanky said they have not received report directly related to the celebration during the religious activities, family gatherings, reunions, and gift- giving, among others.

Data from the PRO-6 showed that 907 crime incidents were logged from December 16, 2024 to January 1 this year – 28.24 percent lower compared to the 1,264 incidents listed in the same period last year.

The eight focus crimes – murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping of motor-vehicle, and carnapping of motorcycle – also dropped to 54 incidents from 176 last year.

Wanky lauded all police personnel across the region for their commitment and dedication towards their duties and responsibilities to delivering an excellent public service 24 hours a day.

“We sincerely recognize all the stakeholders for their invaluable contribution in making the holiday season joyful and peaceful. As we face the new year, it is with optimism that we can perform better as we are forging a stronger partnership and collaboration in all our peace and order and public safety endeavors,” said Wanky.

The PRO-6 chief added: “Rest assured that your police in the region will relentlessly execute its law enforcement operations against all forms of criminality and will ensure that those engaging in illegal activities will be answerable to their actions.”/PN
