ILOILO City – The Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Western Visayas formed a joint task force for peace and security and pushed local government units down to the smallest communities to also establish their own.
According to Philippine Army 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) commander General Jon Aying, smaller joint task forces will also be created in each province, city, municipality, barangay, and even hamlets.
“This is the peace and security resiliency infrastructure na bini-build natin from the regional level down to the different provinces, then cascaded to even barangays, puroks (zones) or sitios (hamlets),” said Aying.
The task force will focus on insurgency, terrorism, illegal drugs, man-made and natural disasters in coordination with local government units.
“(Local government units will) come up with all those coordination, collaboration and integration of assets and capabilities,” said Aying.
In the villages, barangay captains and barangay councils will take the lead in forming peace and security units.
“Sitios will also have their own peace and security teams composed of heads of families or able-bodied men natin,” said Aying.
For efficient communication among the various levels of peace and security task forces, Aying said a communication system will be established.
He urged civilian organizations to join the task forces, too./PN
