MANILA – Schools in Western Visayas that suspended their classes and activities due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic can decide to hold graduation rites and moving-up ceremonies, the Department of Education (DepEd) said.
DepEd undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said during the Laging Handa media briefing yesterday that they are leaving it up to the schools to decide on the ceremonies but reminded them to consult the students’ parents on the matter.
She said: “Puwede po nila itong i-reschedule, puwede din po na ‘di na nila ituloy pero ito po ay kailangan ikonsulta sa mga magulang.”
Several schools in this region decided to suspend their classes as the people were urged to stay at home in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19.
In response to the month-long suspension, DepEd transitioned to electronic learning with an online platform called “DEpEd Commons” in order to help students continue their lessons./PN
