ILOILO CITY — Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) has expanded its capacity for specialized healthcare, rehabilitation, research and medical training with the opening of Building H in Mandurriao district, bringing several key hospital services under one facility.
The building, formerly occupied by the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development, will house WVMC’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center, Eye Care Center, Research Ethics Review Committee, and Professional Education, Training and Research Unit.
WVMC inaugurated and blessed the facility on Aug. 12 along Q. Abeto Street in Mandurriao as part of the government hospital’s continuing effort to strengthen its facilities and improve healthcare delivery for patients across Western Visayas.
“With the opening of Bldg. H, WVMC further strengthens its commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare services while supporting rehabilitation, specialized eye care, ethical research, and the continuing education and professional development of healthcare workers,” WVMC stated.
The facility is expected to serve a dual role — expanding specialized patient services while providing space for research, professional education and continuing development of healthcare workers.
WVMC Medical Center Chief Dr. Joseph Dean L. Nicolo thanked the various agencies and stakeholders whose collaboration made the opening of Building H possible. He underscored the facility’s role in advancing WVMC’s mission of providing quality healthcare services.
Dr. Phoebe S. Tajanlangit, director of the Health Facilities Enhancement Program, meanwhile, stressed the importance of modern healthcare infrastructure in improving the efficiency of medical services.
She said improved facilities are important not only to healthcare delivery but also to creating an environment that supports professional development and patient-centered care.
Department of Health Western Visayas Regional Director Dr. Mar Wynn D. Bello described the newly opened facility as a place of “HAPPINESS, HOPE, and HEALING.”
The inauguration gathered WVMC officials, DOH representatives, healthcare professionals and community partners, reflecting the collaboration among stakeholders in improving healthcare access and quality in the region.
Beyond accommodating hospital offices and service units, Building H is envisioned as a hub where healthcare professionals can pursue research, continuing education and collaboration while providing specialized services to patients.
Its opening further expands WVMC’s role as a major government referral hospital serving Iloilo and the rest of Western Visayas.
