ILOILO — After weeks of intensified manhunt operations, the top-ranked most wanted individual in Western Visayas was finally cornered in a remote coastal barangay in Ajuy, Iloilo.

The suspect, identified only as alias “Onyok,” 71, a farmer from Lambunao, Iloilo, was apprehended on April 4, 2026, in Barangay Tipacla by joint operatives of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) and multiple intelligence and mobile force units.

The arrest stemmed from a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court, Sixth Judicial Region in Janiuay, Iloilo on March 10, 2026, charging the suspect with rape with homicide under Article 266-B of the Revised Penal Code. No bail was recommended for the offense.

Police said the operation was carried out by the 2nd Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company Intelligence Unit in coordination with the Ajuy Municipal Police Station, Lambunao Municipal Police Station, Iloilo Police Provincial Office Provincial Intelligence Unit, and the 602nd Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6.

Authorities described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in the region’s intensified campaign against high-profile fugitives, particularly those accused of heinous crimes.

PRO-6 regional director Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan underscored the importance of the arrest, saying it demonstrates the relentless pursuit of justice by law enforcement.

“This sends a strong message that the long arm of the law will always catch up with those who commit heinous crimes. We remain steadfast in ensuring justice and protecting the people of Western Visayas,” Ligan said./PN
