WVSU one of best performing schools in medical board exam

ILOILO City – West Visayas State University (WVSU) was one of the top-performing schools in the country in the recent Physician Licensure Examination (PLE).

With 96.81 percent of its examinees passing the PLE, WVSU was the seventh best-performing school.

Also, one of WVSU’s examinees landed in the PLE top 10 – Jill Therese Uy Au.

“The licensure exam’s result reflected the university’s consistent adherence to academic quality and excellence. At WVSU, excellence is a commitment and a tradition,” said Dr. Luis Sorolla, university president.

A total of 94 WVSU-College of Medicine graduates took the licensure exam administered by the Professional Regulation Commission on Sept. 8 to 9, 2018 and Oct. 27 to 28, 2018. Ninety-one successfully hurdled it.

Last year, WVSU was the second best-performing school in the PLE; 99 percent of its College of Medicine graduates passed the exam. Also, one of its graduates, Karl Phillip Lumio Avillo, ranked third.

This year’s PLE had 4,542 examinees across the country. A total of 3,717 passed the exam administered in testing centers in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cebu, and Davao.

Cebu Institute of Medicine was the No. 1 top-performing school with a passing rate of 99.33 percent, followed by University of Santo Tomas (98.71 percent), University of the Philippines-Manila (98.59 percent), Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (98.37 percent), St. Luke’s Medical Center College of Medicine – William H. Quasha Memorial (97.87 percent), Davao Medical School Foundation (96.91 percent), Ateneo De Manila University School of Medicine & Public Health-Pasig (95.80 percent), Silliman University (94.74 percent), and Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (94.01 percent)./PN
