ILOILO City – On JM Basa Street, City Proper late Tuesday night, two groups of youngsters clashed. Two teenagers were shot.
A 17-year-old lad from Barangay Tanza, City Proper was rushed to the Western Visayas Medical Center while a 14-year-old boy from Bo. Obrero, La Paz district landed at St. Paul’s Hospital Iloilo.
The two teenagers were members of Sperm Gang, according to Senior Inspector Aldren Lamera, Police Station 1 chief.
The boys sustained gunshot wounds on their backs.
The shooting happened around 11 p.m. The victims and other Sperm Gang members clashed with members of rival gang Homeboys, said Lamera.
The police identified one suspect in the shooting – Joseph Agramaso, suspected leader of the Homeboys Gang. His whereabouts were unknown as of this writing. He and members fled after the shooting.
The shooting happened just three days after a rumble between two groups of youngsters on Mabini Street, Barangay Flores, City Proper on Saturday night left one teenager wounded.
The 18-year-old Steven Silorar of Barangay Rizal Pala-pala, City Proper was taken to the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital for a gunshot wound in the abdomen.
Last month, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog expressed alarm over constant gang violence but stripped of his power over the police, all he could do now is make an appeal to the city’s law enforcers.
“I cannot anymore order the police what to do. But I hope the police would tighten security measures,” said Mabilog.
On Oct. 27 the National Police Commission (Napolcom) Region 6 received an order from the Department of Interior and Local Government and Napolcom central office stripping Mabilog of authority over the ICPO. This was almost three months after President Rodrigo Duterte publicly linked him to illegal drugs.
Mabilog denied being a drug coddler, pusher or user.
Acting city police director Superintendent Efren Lozada said they have a coordinating program among the police, parents and teachers regarding the gang problem.
The Women’s and Children’s Desk led by Senior Inspector Faith Superio, for example, are conducting forums in schools, said Lozada./PN
