ILOILO – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) approved the proposed 2017 budget of the province amounting to P3.1 billion.

Of the amount, P2.37 billion is for the General Fund and P748.24 million for the Local Economic Enterprise, particularly for province-run district hospitals.

SP member Nielo Tupas, chairperson of the SP committee on appropriations, said next year’s budget is P600 million higher than this year’s P2.5 billion.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. said the increase is due to the P200-million hike in the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) of the province and real estate taxes collection.

The P2.37-billion General fund includes allotment for Personal Services (P731.9 million), Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (P758.6 million), Capital Outlay (P70 million), and Special Purpose Lump Sum Appropriations (P810 million).

“Every year ga-increase gid man ang budget ta. The increase will improve the services of the provincial government and hasten the completion of projects,” said Tupas./PN
