MANILA – Gymnast Carlos Yulo easily dominated the floor exercise event. He captured his second gold medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games late afternoon yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Yulo, who qualified for the floor exercise event of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, was dominant in his pet event. He tallied 14.700 points, 0.050 higher than his Olympic qualification points.

The 19-year-old had a difficulty score of 6.200 and execution score of 8.500.

The 2017 SEA Games gold medal winner, Reyland Capellan, landed at fifth.

Yulo, however, settled for a runner up finish in the pommel horse event with 13.233 points, behind Malaysian Fu Jie Tan who copped the gold with 13.96.

He also landed on second place in the still rings event with Vietnam emerging on top by a hairline.

Yulo is yet to compete in the parallel bars, horizontal bar, and vault events today.

Meanwhile, Filipina weightlifter Elreen Ann Ando was denied a second gold medal in weightlifting. She fell short by a kilo in the women’s 64 kg category last night.

Ando’s defeat was controversial. Her final lift in the clear and jerk, which could have won her the gold medal, was ruled as a “no lift” as she made the lift as the time expired.

The trio of Johnzenth Gajo, Jones Inso, and Thornton Sayan was not able to follow Wong’s feat. They settled for a bronze medal finish in the taolu duilian event with a score of 9.49.
