MANILA — Redemption complete. Filipino gymnastics ace Carlos Edriel Yulo reclaimed his throne as the world’s best in the vault event, clinching the gold medal at the 2025 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships on Saturday in Jakarta, Indonesia.
After narrowly missing the top podium in the floor exercise a day earlier, Yulo unleashed a commanding performance in the vault final, posting an average of 14.866 points to outclass Armenia’s Artur Davtyan (14.833) and Ukraine’s Nazar Chepurnyi (14.483).
The two-time Olympic gold medalist delivered a near-perfect first vault that earned 15.200 points, followed by a composed second attempt at 14.533, sealing his second world vault title after his 2021 triumph in Kitakyushu, Japan.
The 25-year-old Filipino dynamo, known for his explosive power and clean landings, displayed trademark precision and poise under pressure.
“I’m very happy to win this again,” Yulo said after the event. “The competition was tough, but I focused on executing my routines well.”
Just a day earlier, Yulo secured a bronze medal in the floor exercise, scoring 14.533 points behind Great Britain’s Jake Jarman (14.866) and Luke Whitehouse (14.666).
