MANILA — Rising Filipino gymnast Karl Jahrel Eldrew Yulo sustained his strong international campaign after clinching a bronze medal in the men’s floor exercise final of the 2026 Apparatus World Cup in Cairo, Egypt on Sunday night.
Yulo delivered a composed and high-difficulty routine to score 14.000, securing a podium finish against a stacked global field and reinforcing his status as one of the Philippines’ brightest gymnastic prospects.
Neutral athlete Daniel Marinov ruled the event with 14.233, while Arsenii Dukhno settled for silver with 14.133.
Competing under pressure, Yulo held his ground with clean execution to outlast several seasoned contenders and secure the Philippines’ lone medal in the event.
Spain’s Rayderley Zapata placed fourth with 13.933, while China’s Li Hongyan finished fifth with 13.766.
The Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) lauded Yulo for his resilience and composure against elite competition.
“In a field of fierce competitors, Eldrew Yulo rose to the challenge!” the GAP wrote on their social media page. “CONGRATULATIONS, ELDREW! We are incredibly proud of you!”
The younger Yulo, brother of two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Edriel Yulo, continues to build momentum after winning gold in the same event during the Antalya leg of the Gymnastics World Cup last month.
He will look to add to his medal haul as he returns to action in the horizontal bar final scheduled Monday night (early Tuesday in the Philippines), aiming for another podium finish in Cairo./PN
