ILOILO City – In Zone 3, Barangay Barrio Obrero, Lapuz, a fight between two locals led to the arrest of one of them for illegal possession of a firearm.

Vincent Recañas, 32, failed to present pertinent documents proving his legal ownership of the loaded .22 Magnum revolver he was accused of using to threaten Edgar Arellano, 37, a police report showed.

Arellano told the police Recañas spat in front of him while he was sitting outside his store in the village at around 10 p.m. on Monday.

Arellano said he just ignored Recañas but the latter, who was drunk, returned and asked, “Ano problema mo sa akon, pre?”

He said there was none, Arellano said. Recañas then stepped back and drew the firearm tucked in his waist, said Arellano.

Arellano said this prompted him to punch Recañas. When the latter fell to the ground, Arellano said he picked up the gun and rushed to the La Paz police station.

The Investigation Section found out that the weapon had eight live bullets in it.

Recañas was arrested and detained at the La Paz police station./PN
