ILOILO City – Four suspected bet solicitors for the illegal numbers game “bookies” were arrested separately in one day.
In Barangay Ungka 2, Pavia, Iloilo Lucia Lopez, 62, was caught b y policemen around 4 p.m. on May 15. She yielded P205 cash and illegal gambling paraphernalia.
An hour after, the 18-year-old Roy Arcan was collared in Barangay Medina, Anilao, Iloilo.
In Barangay Poblacion, Estancia, Iloilo illegal gambling suspect Jayson Casabuena, 31, was arrested, too. Around 6:30 p.m. policemen recovered from him P140 representing various bets.
An hour after Casabuena was nabbed, the 19-year-old James Parcon of Barangay Ilaya, Dumangas, Iloilo was caught. Police recovered from him P700 bet money and other illegal gambling paraphernalia.
All four persons face charges for violation of Republic Act 9287 that outlaws illegal gambling.
According to Senior Superintendent Harold Tuzon, Iloilo police provincial director, the campaign against illegal gambling is also a priority of police stations across the province.
“I told my men huwag pabayaan ang illegal gambling kasi legal na dito sa province ang Small Town Lottery. I urge people to place their bets on the legal STL and not on illegal numbers games kasi hindi kami magdadalawang isip na hulihin kayo,” said Tuzon./PN
