BACOLOD City – One person was confirmed dead while three others were injured after a cane truck accidentally plowed a house in Barangay Guintubhan, Isabela, Negros Occidental on Monday night, Sept. 12.
Authorities identified the fatality as 66-year-old Eduardo Malabon, a resident of the said place.
The injured were 27-year-old Ariel Malabon, 15-year-old Lyca Malabon, and 19-year-old truck helper Dan Plohinog.
Police Lieutenant Dante Belenario, deputy chief of the Isabela Municipal Police Station, said the truck, driven by 37-year-old Erniel Terol, tried to overtake a tricycle.
As Terol was going back to his lane, a tricycle overtook him and suddenly stopped in front of him to unload a passenger.
He immediately tried to apply the truck’s brakes but he lost control of the wheel and his truck subsequently crashed into the house.
Terol is now detained at the Isabela Municipal Police Station.
He could face charges related to vehicular manslaughter and reckless imprudence resulting to damage to property and physical injuries./PN
