BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has set up 10 checkpoints around the city as part of the security measures for the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections this May 14.

The election period started on April 14, the first day of the filing of certificates of candidacies. It will end on May 21.

BCPO spokeswoman Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas said officers from 10 police stations in the city are manning the checkpoints.

On Saturday, the election gun ban took effect. The ban on bearing, carrying and transporting other deadly weapons was also put into place.

Availing of or engaging the services of security personnel or bodyguards are strictly prohibited, too, the Commission on Elections said.

Only regular members of the Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other law enforcement agencies duly deputized in writing by the Comelec for election duty may be authorized to carry and possess firearms during the poll period.
