ILOILO City – Ten more persons diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) recovered from the illness, the Department of Health (DOH) reported over the weekend – so far the largest number of patients to have recuperated from the viral disease in a single day in Western Visayas.
This brought to 24 the total number of COVID-19 patients who have overcome the disease in the region.
In Case Bulletin No. 30 released on April 25, the 10 cases to have successfully beaten SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, were the following:
* 75-year-old male from Bacolod City (Patient No. 6)
* 48-year-old male from Bacolod City (Patient No. 26)
* 39-year-old female from Lambunao, Iloilo (Patient No. 27)
* 41-year-old male from Lambunao, Iloilo (Patient No. 28)
* 70-year-old female from Lambunao, Iloilo (Patient No. 29)
* 48-year-old male from Lambunao, Iloilo (Patient No. 30)
* 25-year-old male from Roxas City, Capiz (Patient No. 33)
* 50-year-old male from Pavia, Iloilo (Patient No. 37)
* 52-year-old female from Pavia, Iloilo (Patient No. 38)
* 69-year-old male from Pandan, Antique (Patient No. 39)
All these patients tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 virus in their second and third tests, said Dr. Renilyn Reyes, head of DOH-6’s public health program development cluster.
On April 24, DOH Region 6 reported three patients who recovered from COVID-19 – a 44-year-old male from Jaro, Iloilo City (Patient No. 17); 66-year-old female from Kalibo, Aklan (Patient No. 24); and 40-year-old male from Kalibo, Aklan (patient No. 32).
Yesterday afternoon, however, DOH reported one more mortality from COVID-19 in the region – a 63-year-old male patient from Roxas City, Capiz.
Patient No. 41 died at The Medical City in Molo, Iloilo City on April 24.
This brought to nine the number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the region.
LATEST COVID-19 POSITIVE CASES
In COVID-19 Case Bulletin No. 31 released yesterday, April 26, DOH-6 reported four new cases. These were the following:
* 31-year-old male from Zarraga, Iloilo (Patient No. 59)
* 56-year-old male from Pandan, Antique (Patient No. 60)
* 69-year-old male from Pandan, Antique (Patient No. 61)
* 65-year-old female from Bacolod City (Patient No. 62)
They were placed on quarantine.
These four positive cases brought to 62 the total number of COVID-19 cases in Western Visayas.
Here’s the breakdown of cases:
* Aklan – six
* Antique – 11
* Capiz – five
* Guimbaras – zero
* Iloilo province – 20
* Negros Occidental – four
* Bacolod City – nine
* Iloilo City – seven
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.
Most people (about 80 percent) recover from the disease without needing special treatment, according to the World Health Organization.
Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness./PN
