BACOLOD City – Around 1,000 people gathered for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) landmark lighting ceremony 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bacolod City Government Center.
Bacolod was chosen to be among 76 other local government units across the country to join the simultaneous activity as a part of ASEAN’s 50th anniversary.
The choir composed of 1,000 students from public and private elementary and secondary schools in the city performed during the activity. Balloons were also released.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the students represent the future.
“In the end, they are going to reap the benefits from the ASEAN integration,” Leonardia said.
The mayor also said the ASEAN integration will bring more opportunities and challenges.
