MANILA – Eleven Western Visayan players were showing their wares in the UAAP Season 80 juniors’ basketball tournament.
Three of them were from Bacolod City, another three from Negros Occidental, two from Iloilo City, another two from Aklan, and one from Antique.
University of the East Pages had the most number of Region 6 players – Negrenses Shane Dichoso (Himamaylan City), Joshua Lopez (Kabankalan City) and John Almacen (La Carlota City), Jared Tajonera of Bacolod City, and Darvin Policarpio of Ibajay, Aklan.
Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws had two Ilonggos – John Bryan Sajonia, who played for Santa Clarita International High School Primes, and Ronrei Tolentino, who was with Iloilo National High School.
University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs also had two Western Visayan players – Vince Leo Dolendor from Hamtic, Antique who played for Hua Siong College of Iloilo and Jinrich Go from Bacolod City.
Samjosef Belangel of Bacolod City belonged to Ateneo Blue Eaglets while Joelo Tupaz of Malay, Aklan was sent to University of the Philippines Integrated School Junior Maroons.
National University Bullpups had three WV recruits – Ryan Calama-an from Leon, Iloilo, Gerry Abadiano from Iloilo City and Jayson Puray from Bacolod City – but they were not lined up as they were still serving residency.
Bullpups and Blue Eaglets were currently pacing the juniors’ division with 4-0 win-loss record each. Defending champion Baby Tamaraws, meanwhile, had 2-2./PN
