ILOILO City – The applications of 12 elementary and high schools – four private and eight public – here to resume face-to-face classes have been approved by Mayor Jerry Treñas.
According to Iloilo City Schools Division Superintendent Ma. Luz De los Reyes, 66 schools applied.
More could be approved soon if they would be found to have met the requirements of the School Safety Assessment Tool (SSAT), said De los Reyes.
They would be recommended by the City Schools Division Superintendent to the mayor.
Treñas reiterated the need to resume face-to-face classes. The children’s education suffered due to the coronavirus disease pandemic, he stressed.
“The online and modular lessons seem to not work very well. We need to help children learn effectively,” he said.
De los Reyes cited the city government for implementing projects and programs in preparation for the eventual resumption of face-to-face classes.
These include funds for the repair / construction of classrooms, hand-washing facilities, isolation rooms, school traffic management signs, facilitating the donations of partners for health supplies, and hygiene kits, etc./PN
