ILOILO – Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College (NIPSC) may now officially operate as Northern Iloilo State University (NISU).

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) issued it a certificate of compliance on April 26 two months after holding a validation from Feb. 7 to 10, 2022, Dr. Bobby D. Gerardo, NISU president.

It was on June 2013 yet when then President Benigno Aquino III signed into law Republic Act No. 10597 establishing NISU by integrating the Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College (NIPSC) in the municipality of Estancia, NIPSC-Barotac Viejo Campus, Ajuy Polytechnic State College, Batad Polytechnic State College, Concepcion Polytechnic State College, Lemery Polytechnic State College, and the Victorino Salcedo Polytechnic State College in the municipality of Sara.

However, NIPSC failed to fully meet the requirements.

What were these requirements? These included, among others, the inventory of classrooms and laboratory facilities, faculty profile, and achievements of students and faculty.

Gerardo was appointed as fifth NIPSC president just this July 2021.

Now a state university, NISU may soon offer masters and doctorate degree programs, he said.

“Daku nga pride…nga ang aton students ma-graduate nga may tatak ang ila transcript and diploma nga ‘Northern Iloilo State University’. That will give them a competitive advantage sa pagpangita sang trabaho later on,” said Gerardo.

At present, over 10,000 students are enrolled in the seven campuses of NISU.

The programs it offers are Fishery, Agriculture, Education (Elementary and Secondary), Information Technology, Industrial Technology, Criminology, Hospital Management and Engineering courses.

Today, NISU’s marker would be unveiled at the main campus in Estancia. Gerardo would also take his oath as first president of NISU./PN
