ILOILO – A total of 12,782 Western Visayans vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) still got infected by the virus.
Data (as of Sept. 28) from the Department of Health (DOH) showed 5,393 of the infected individuals contracted SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, after their first dose of inoculation.
However, data also showed 2,610 of them were asymptomatic; 2,595 experienced mild symptoms; 149 moderate cases; 43 severe; and five were critical.
Meanwhile, 7,389 fully vaccinated individuals in Region 6 contracted COVID – 3,181 were asymptomatic; 4,081 mild cases; 95 moderate; 26 were severe; and six critical.
There is no available data yet as to the vaccinated individuals who got infected and died.
Dr. Jocelyn Te, DOH-6 spokesperson, emphasized that most of the infected vaccinated individuals were either asymptomatic or had mild symptoms.
“Daku gid ang nabulig sang vaccine naton,” said Te.
As of Oct. 10, a total of 1,750,910 individuals or 31.38 percent of the 5.57 million master-listed eligible population under Priority Group A in Region 6 received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 1,358,283 or 24.34 percent were already fully vaccinated.
Meantime, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) has yet to give a green light on booster shots.
Last month, country’s vaccine experts recommended giving booster shots to health workers for their additional protection, especially with the presence of the more contagious SARS-CoV-2 variants such as Delta.
Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry Treñas requested DOH and IATF anew to already allow booster shots for the medical frontliners and their families, as well as the vaccination for minors.
