ILOILO – Thirteen municipalities have no lots on where their police stations could permanent stand.
The municipalities are Alimodian, Balasan, Batad, Cabatuan, Dingle, Guimbal, Leganes, Lemery, Maasin, Pototan, San Joaquin, San Rafael, and Sara.
This concern was raised during the recent Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting at the provincial capitol, according to Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr.
He asked the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) to submit a formal list of the towns needing permanent areas for their police stations so this could be tackled during the meeting of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Iloilo chapter.
Iloilo province has 42 towns and one component city (Passi).
Department of Interior and Local Government Iloilo director Teodora Sumagaysay said towns with no permanent police stations simply made available portions of their municipal halls as offices of their cops
The IPPO proposed to the PPOC to pass a resolution requesting the concerned local government units to find suitable land for police stations.
Based on the Philippine National Police’s National Headquarters Bids and Awards Committee Resolution No. 077, a police office building costs P17.5 million; Type “A” building, P7.4 million; Type “B/C”, P4.6 million; and Community Police Action, P1.2 million.
Sumagaysay said a good working atmosphere could improve the performance of policemen./PN
