14 disaster-hit families get aid

ILOILO City – Fourteen families whose houses were damaged by heavy rains and fires received cash assistance from the city government.

Mayor Jose Espinosa III led the distribution of P7,000 to victims whose houses were totally damaged and P3,500 to those whose houses were partially damaged.

There were nine beneficiaries from Barangay Ortiz and two from Barangay Liberation in City Proper, and one each from barangays Santo Niño and Santo Domingo in Arevalo district, and Lanit in Jaro.

“The government should make sure victims of any disaster can avail [themselves] of assistance,” Espinosa said. “They are in need of support to overcome their struggles. We hope these amounts will help you start again.”

Manong Boy, a resident of Ortiz, thanked the city government for the aid. “I hope we can rebuild our houses,” he said. (Thessalonia Ordales, Iloilo City PIO/PN)
