JORDAN, Guimaras – Seventeen of the 19 close contacts of a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) case here tested negative for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the illness.
Two others, however, tested positive for the virus, according to the Rural Health Unit (RHU).
The index case was a doctor who volunteered in a recent bloodletting in Barangay Poblacion here. Sixteen of this doctor’s close contacts were blood donors while the remaining three were barangay officials.
The doctor recently recovered from the viral illness.
The close contacts who contracted COVID-19 were males, 23 and 25 years old, and residents of Barangay Poblacion. They were the only active COVID-19 cases of Jordan as of now.
Both asymptomatic or not exhibiting signs and symptoms of COVID-19, they were taken to Jordan’s primary quarantine facility on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 21. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Some may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.
The RHU has started tracing the close contacts of these two active COVID-19 cases for testing.
Since March last year when the pandemic was declared, Jordan recorded 98 COVID-19 cases with four deaths in Barangay Rizal (two), Barangay Maravilla (one) and Barangay San Miguel (one).
