18-year-old motorcyclist dies in Ajuy road crash

ILOILO — An 18-year-old student died on Wednesday morning, July 29, following a motorcycle collision along the national highway in Barangay Culasi, Ajuy town.

Police identified the victim as alias “Kim,” who was driving a Rusi 150 motorcycle. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

According to Police Captain Aileen Lacrite, officer-in-charge of the Ajuy Municipal Police Station, the incident occurred when a Suzuki motorcycle, driven by a 44-year-old man identified as alias “Rey,” signaled to make a left turn toward a nearby gasoline station.

Ajuy police reported that the victim attempted to overtake the turning vehicle but failed to avoid it, resulting in a collision.

The force of the impact threw the student off his motorcycle, causing severe injuries in the different parts of his body. Rey and his wife also sustained injuries in the crash.

Lacrite, in an Aksyon Radyo iloilo report, confirmed that both involved parties have reached a mutual settlement, leading to Rey’s release from police custody.

Meanwhile, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) reiterated its appeal to motorists to practice maximum caution on the road, particularly when turning or changing lanes.

The IPPO urged drivers to check their mirrors and blind spots, always use signal lights in advance, and verify that lanes are clear before executing any maneuvers.

Police emphasized that simple signaling and attentive driving can prevent unnecessary accidents and save lives./PN
