ILOILO City – Two men were arrested for trying to bribe a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent set to testify in court against drug suspects.
The two – 50-year-old Ginibon Ali and 38-year-old Roben Shaik, both from Lanao del Sur – were caught in an entrapment operation yesterday at The Atrium mall on Bonifacio Drive around 8:30 a.m.
PDEA and the Police Regional Office 6’s (PRO-6) Regional Intelligence Division (RID) designed the entrapment.
For a P100,000 down payment, the suspects asked the PDEA agent to bungle his court testimony against arrested drug suspects Toni Ali and Khalil Ali, said Superintendent Julies Balano of the RID.
The two Alis, caught in an antidrug operation of PDEA Region 6 last October 2015, are currently detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology male dormitory in Barangay Ungka, Jaro, Iloilo City.
According to Balano, the total offer of Ali and Shaik to the PDEA agent was P300,000.
“Ang PDEA agent lumapit sa ating tangapan na may umo-offer daw sa kanya na i-laglag ‘yung case pagdating sa pagte-testify sa court,” said PDEA regional director Wardley Getalla.
The director immediately coordinated with the PRO-6.
After their arrest, Ali and Shaik were detained at the PDEA-6 detention facility in Fort San Pedro.
They would be charged with trying to corrupt a public official, said Getalla./PN
