ILOILO City – Two police officers from the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) were bestowed with the Medalya ng Kadakilaan for saving the lives of fellow passengers in a boat mishap at the Iloilo Strait last month.
After Monday’s flag ceremony in Camp Crame, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, General Oscar Albayalde personally conferred the Medalya ng Kadakilaan to Chief Master Sergeant Jonathan Magan of San Lorenzo, Guimaras police station and Staff Sergeant Rodito Erpella of the Regional Headquarters Support Unit of the PRO-6.
Albayalde said the two showed “heroic acts of conspicuous courage and commitment to the service” for saving lives of passengers onboard one of the boats that capsized in the Iloilo Strait despite being victims themselves during the sea mishap.
Albayalde said the heroism shown by the two cops should be emulated by others in the police service.
On Aug. 3, three boats – MV Chi-Chi, MB Keziah and MB Jenny Vince – capsized off Iloilo Strait due to bad weather. A total of 33 people died. (PNA/PN)
