Iloilo City 8th safest in Southeast Asia – survey

ILOILO City – This city has entered the list of the safest cities in Southeast Asia, placing eighth in the Top 10.

Among the safest centers in Southeast Asian region are Chiang Mai (Thailand), Davao (Philippines), Singapore, Makati (Philippines), Hanoi (Vietnam), Penang (Malaysia), Bangkok (Thailand), Bali (Indonesia), and Cebu (Philippines).

This was the assessment of Numbeo, an online survey site that provides information about the living conditions in cities and countries.

Dubbed as “the world’s largest database of user-contributed data worldwide,” Numbeo gives current information on each city’s cost of living, housing indicators, health care, traffic, crime, and pollution.

Mayor Jerry Treñas was elated that Iloilo City got a lot of interests in the internet.

Being included in the global poll means promotion in terms of tourism and investments because it could be used as a baseline data in selling the potentials of the locality.

Treñas directed the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) to sustain the favorable peace and order situation.

He turned over recently two motorcycles to the ICPO and additional 28 units will follow soon.

Another 18 motorcycles will be given to traffic aides under the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO).

The vehicles will improve police mobility and visibility in responding to urgent situations, maintaining peace and order and securing the public, making the metropolis safe and livable to locals and visitors alike.

Treñas also gave a Certificate of Recognition to ICPO director Police Colonel Martin Defensor Jr. for ICPO’s bagging of the citation “Outstanding City Police Office of the Year” in the field of Police Community Relations (PCR) during the culmination of the 24th Police-Community Relations Month in Camp Crame, Quezon City on July 29.

Such feat is a manifestation of ICPO’s dedication to foster better police-community relations, empowering the community and strengthening partnership and fellowship with various stakeholders through its various community-oriented activities and programs.

The ICPO was also cited for its proficiency in the implementation of the PNP Patrol Plan 2030 for the attainment of a highly-capable effective and credible police service./PN
