
BACOLOD City – Two persons were detained at the Escalante City police station for alleged illegal transportation of logs.
Suspects Joemarie Coniendo, 48, and Benhor Destura, 54, were both residents of Barangay Pinapugasan, Escalante City, Negros Occidental.
Police said they recovered about 1,000 board feet of lumber worth P28,000.
Officers of the Escalante City police station conducting a mobile patrol at around 7:25 p.m. on Dec. 19 along Barangay Balintawak road tailed a truck loaded with assorted lumber.
Police later stopped the truck driven by Coniendo and asked them for the log transport documents, but the suspects said they didn’t have any.
The suspects will face charges for violation of Presidential Decree 705, or the Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines./PN
