ILOILO City – Two armed groups fired at each other yesterday in Arnaldo Boulevard, Roxas City. A police officer got wounded.
Police Officer 1 Elmer Jan Layog, a resident of Roxas City (assigned at the Maritime Command based in Bacolod City), sustained a gunshot wound in the back. He was taken to the Roxas City Memorial Hospital.
The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. Two groups of warring armed men were chasing each other and firing guns. Layog was passing by. He was on his way home driving a motorcycle.
The police were able to identify two members of one group – Sanny Deocampo, 29, and Arnel Bolante, 18.
Layog managed to fire his gun after he was shot. He hit Deocampo.
Deocampo was hospitalized while Bolante was arrested. Responding policemen recovered a .38 revolver./PN
