2 gun ban violators nabbed

BACOLOD City – Two persons were arrested for violating the election gun ban in Negros Occidental on Saturday.

One of them is the 26-year-old Rodelin Gambalan of Barangay Minoyan, Murcia town.

A .22-caliber revolver was seized from Gambalan around 10:15 p.m. on Jan 19 at Manokan Food Park in Barangay Zone 2, Murcia, a police report showed.

Officers from the municipal police station responded to the area after they received a report on indiscriminate firing.

Gambalan – who failed to present the gun’s pertinent documents – was detained in the Murcia police station lockup facility.

He was facing charges for violating the election gun ban and Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Another gun ban violator was arrested in Barangay 8, Isabela town later that night.

The 48-year-old Joseph Tamayo was caught around 11:20 p.m. along Burgos Street, a police report showed.

Police officers recovered from him a .45-caliber pistol loaded with three live bullets.

Tamayo was detained in the Isabela police station lockup cell, facing charges for violation of the firearms ban./PN
