ILOILO City – Two Indian nationals were arrested yesterday in an antidrug operation of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-6). They may also be charged with trying to bribe the agency.
According to Assistant Regional Director Levi Ortiz, Joginder Pal Tangri and Tehal Singh went to the PDEA office around 3:30 p.m. and offered P100,000 cash for the release of their compatriot Amandeep Tangri who was arrested on Monday night for selling 10 grams of shabu.
“We negotiated with them and told them to come back in the afternoon. They didn’t know we were planning to entrap them,” said Ortiz.
When they returned to the PDEA office, one personnel presented himself as the regional director. The two Indian nationals gave him the money.
Ortiz said Tangri and Singh will be charged with corrupting a public official, bribery and coddling a drug pusher.
Amandeep Tangri was arrested in a buy-bust operation around 7:30 p.m. on Monday in Barangay San Pedro, Molo district. He sold 10 grams of shabu for P90,000 to a PDEA agent.
Ortiz said the suspect was a high-value target and had been under surveillance for quite some time.
