ILOILO City – A village watchman was stabbed to death by his two cousins during a Christmas party in Barangay Igdampog Sur, Tubungan, Iloilo.

Marcelo Tabalena, 30, died of multiple stab wounds on Dec. 24, Christmas Eve.

Tabalena’s father, the 57-year-old Leonidas, sustained stab wounds while trying to help his son. He was taken to the Western Visayas Medical Center.

The stabbing happened around 11 p.m. at Barangay Igdampog’s plaza. Barangay officials were having a Christmas party.

The suspects were Rolly Tabalena, 32, and brother Ronilo. Both had a heated argument with cousin Marcelo, said Inspector Ernie Mar Madriñan, Tubungan police chief.

It was unclear what the three men were arguing about but all appeared to be drunk, said Madriñan.

From what the Tubungan police so far gathered, Marcelo and Rolly previously had a misunderstanding over a woman.

Rolly and Ronilo fled after the stabbing.

Rolly was arrested in Barangay Poblacion, Leon yesterday while Ronilo surrendered to the Tubungan police station.

MOTORCYCLE COLLISION

Two motorcycles collided in Barangay Tingui-an, Balasan, Iloilo on Christmas Eve. One died while four others were injured.

Johnny Bantiling, driver of one of the motorcycles, died of severe head and body injuries while being treated at the Jesus M. Colmenares Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Tingui-an.

Two of those injured were confined in that hospital, too: Sensen Dalesme, 29, and Lester John Dalesme, 5.

The two others were taken to a hospital in Roxas City: Sendy Dalesme, 9; and Expedito Dalesme, 17, driver of the other motorcycle.

According to Chief Inspector Rene Alavaren, Balasan police chief, all the victims were not wearing helmets.

The motorcycle collision happened at around 9:40 p.m. at a blind curve.

“Perhaps the motorcycles were running fast,” said Alavaren./PN
