2 passengers killed, 3 hurt in Bacolod road mishap

BACOLOD City – Two passengers died and three others, including a tricycle driver, were injured following a collision between a tricycle and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) vehicle on Tuesday morning, October 21.

The accident occurred around 4:38 a.m. along B.S. Aquino Drive, Barangay 3 in this city.

Police reports identified the fatalities as Cheralyn Poja and Redilla Gamgam, both residents of Barangay Banago. They were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at a local hospital.

The injured included tricycle driver alias “Operiano” from Talisay City, Negros Occidental, and passengers identified as aliases “Crislyn” and “Roda,” both residents of this city. They were immediately admitted to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment.

An initial report from the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) stated that the tricycle, traveling westbound, and the Toyota Fortuner, heading northbound, collided head-on at the accident site.

Police said the tricycle passengers were reportedly on their way to Libertad Market to buy goods when the crash occurred. The vehicle’s sidecar was struck, causing it to flip into the opposite lane and throwing the victims from the vehicle.

Authorities further alleged that the SUV driver was a minor and a resident of La Castellana Negros Occidental, who is now under the custody of Police Station 2.

Investigation into the incident was ongoing, with police examining the circumstances that led to the fatal collision./PN
