BACOLOD city – Two transport groups in this city revealed that that they will not join the strike on June 5 and 6.
Federation of Bacolod City Drivers Association (Febacda) president Elizabeth Katalbas and Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators ng Negros (Stone) head Jessie Ortega yesterday met with Bacolod City Police Office acting director Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky to signify that they will not be part of the strike.
Wanky also said Katalbas and Ortega asked for police visibility during the strike since they fear that their drivers will be harassed by the protesters.
“We assured them that the police will be there to secure them and the drivers that will not be joining the strike,” Wanky said.
Furthermore, Wanky assured the public that there will still be jeepneys during the strike.
The two transport group leaders stressed that they will not join the strike because 20 percent of the transportation community will be paralyzed.
Katalbas also noted that according to Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board Region 6 director Richard Osmeña, the jeepney phase-out will not take effect immediately.
She also said drivers have “families to feed.”
Meanwhile, Police Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, head of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO), clarified that the operation of BTAO is still normal. They will not allow colorum vehicles especially tricycles to ply within the city and they will still apprehend those out-of-route vehicles./PN
