BACOLOD City – The mother of an illegal drug suspect appealed to members of the media to stop reporting about their case.

Gina Serenio, mother of Ricky, a self-confessed former member of the Berya drug group, told members of the media yesterday in a press conference at the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to stop reporting about the murder cases they have filed last week for safety purposes.

She said she and the rest of her family are still living in the place where her husband and son were killed.

She doesn’t want another family member to get killed, she stressed.

Gina’s husband, Wilfredo, 53, was killed on May 22. Their son Wilmar, 31, was killed on April 10. Both were shot to death by armed men in Barangay Singcang-Airport.

Senior Police Officer 1 Joshua Barile of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Intelligence Group held a press conference on Thursday to announce that he was being charged of two counts of murder in the killing of the two members of the Serenio family. Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, acting director of the BCPO, did not identify the suspect for several days after the filing of the case on May 26 as requested by Gina.

Barile has denied the charges filed against him.

Barile said he wrote to PNP chief director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa and the Office of the President asking for an investigation into the officers tagged as drug protectors and into his current case.

Barile said he was dismayed in his service for “nobody can be trusted” anymore.

He said he knew his and his family’s lives were in danger but he “will not retreat until the last drop of my blood.”

Barile claimed all the accusations against him were “fabricated” because there was a “big person” behind the case who was manipulating it.

Wanky, on the other hand, said they will let the court decide on the case./PN
