ILOILO – The northern municipality of Batad in the 5th District is hosting the 2019 Provincial Cooperative Month celebration.
The Iloilo Provincial Cooperative Development Council (IPCDC) and Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO) are leading the month-long affair.
The celebration theme is “Cooperativism: A countervailing force against climate change and violent extremism through people empowerment to trailblaze shift in paradigm towards sustainability and social inclusion.”
Yesterday, the opening program was held at the Batad covered gym. Among those in attendance were local officials of Batad led by Mayor Elvira Alarcon; Atty. Arturo Cangrejo, chief of the PCDO; Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Nieleto Tupas, Cong.m Raul Tupas of the 5th District; officials from the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) in Region 6; and members of cooperatives.
According to Mila Layog, PCDO supervising cooperative development specialist, cooperativism contributes to socioeconomic development.
As of September 16, 2019 there were 586 CDA-registered cooperatives in Iloilo.
Activities lined up for the 2019 Provincial Cooperative Month celebration include the following:
* Oct. 10 and 11 – Governance & Management of Cooperative in Batad
* Oct. 14 to 24 – trade fair and exhibit at the Iloilo provincial capitol lobby (as of yesterday, some 20 exhibitors confirm participation)
* Oct. 18 – Coop Whiz Contest (for students and cooperative members) at the Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College in Batad.
* Oct. 22 to 23 – Iloilo Technology Development Training for cooperative members/PN
