ILOILO City – Twenty-four passengers were injured when a jeepney fell into a ditch yesterday in Barangay PD Monfort North, Dumangas, Iloilo.

They were taken to various hospitals in this city.
None of them was in a serious condition, according to Chief Inspector Rene Obregon, Dumangas police chief.
The jeepney – laden with people who attended a burial of a relative in Dumangas – was heading to Barotac Nuevo town when the incident happened around 10 a.m., Obregon said.

Police identified the driver as the 28-year-old Arnel Biñas of Barotac Nuevo.
The passengers suffered minor injuries and bruises but needed medical attention nevertheless, Obregon said.
Biñas was driving slowly due to heavy rains but the jeepney’s engine malfunctioned, initial police investigation showed.
The driver was detained at the Dumangas police station.

He was facing a charge for reckless imprudence resulting to multiple physical injuries./PN
