ILOILO City – Twenty-seven policemen are quarantining while waiting for the results of their coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) tests.
They were exposed to two colleagues who tested positive for the disease – a Police Lieutenant Colonel at the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) and Police Staff Sergeant of Police Station 1.
The 27 police officers were swabbed over the weekend – 17 were detailed at the ICPO while 10 were with Police Station 1.
Some were quarantining at home while others were at the quarantine facilities of the municipalities where they reside.
As for the two COVID-positive police officers, they were separately hospitalized for showing signs and symptoms of the disease, according to Police Captain Shella Mae Sangrines, ICPO spokesperson.
She also clarified that the ICPO and Police Station 1 remain open and not on lockdown.
Still, she said, those who need to file blotter reports are encouraged to do so online “to avoid (physical) contact with other police officers” as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.
ICPO director Police Colonel Dampal was not among the police officers quarantining. He was on leave when the two policemen were discovered to be infected./PN
