29 cops hurdle ‘surprise’ drug test

ILOILO City – The 29 police officers of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) subjected to a “surprise” drug test last week were all negative of prohibited substances.

On June 6, PRO-6 director Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao ordered the 29 from the Personnel Holding Admin Unit (PHAU) of the Regional Personnel and Human Resource Development Division (RPHRDD) to take a drug test.

The policemen submitted urine samples to the Regional Crime Laboratory.

“None tested positive for illegal drugs,” said PRO-6 spokesperson Superintendent Joem Malong.

Drug testing will be made regular, said Malong, as part of efforts to cleanse the Philippine National Police.

Policemen who will fail the drug tests face administrative sanctions and could even be removed from the service.

Bulalacao warned policemen not to engage in illegal drugs either as user, pusher or protector.

“We are really serious in cleansing our ranks,” said Bulalacao./PN
