ILOILO City – Some 2,000 delegates are expected to attend the upcoming 8th National Tripartite Conference (NTC) for Cooperative Development to be held here from Sept. 20 to 21.

As early as the second week of September, there were already 1,800 registered participants.

Organizers are still expecting 200 walk-in participants especially from Mindanao.

The City Tourism and Development Office (CTDO) recently expressed hope that tourist arrivals will continue to increase this September until December, a period it considers as “convention months.”

CTDO head Junel Ann Divinagracia assured the public there would be no security issues during big conventions because the Iloilo City Police Office and city government are closely working to ensure the safety of guests.

Iloilo City Cooperative Development Officer Lito Jusa said the gathering seeks to strengthen the relationship and coordination between cooperatives, local government units and private sectors.

In this city, there are 93 registered cooperatives. They serve as “venues for people to generate savings and put up business and livelihood projects,” said Jusa.

NTC is a regular event of the Liga ng mga Cooperative Development Officers sa Pilipinas (LCDOP) every two years. It provides stakeholders a venue to bring forth the sector’s major issues and concerns.

The forum also aims to come up with some propositions to address the clamor of cooperatives and sustain development in the countryside.

The conference will be held at Grand Xing Imperial Hotel. The Cooperative Development Authority and Iloilo provincial government will spearhead this year’s conference. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
