THREE Ilonggo runners have qualified to the finals after topping the Iloilo qualifying leg of the 41st National Milo Marathon yesterday at the Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Romnick Dago and Jero Matheus Jaro topped the male 21km race while Alexandra Ganzon ruled the distaff side to earn an all-expense-paid participation to the national level on Dec. 3 in Cebu City.
Rommel Castro, head of Iloilo City government Sports Development Division, said it will be known in the next few days if the number of qualified runners to the national finals will increase.
“These three were already assured of a national finals stint,” Castro told Panay News. “We will know by Tuesday if meron pang additional runners na mag-qualify even if not all-expense-paid.”
Finishing behind Dago (1:14:45) and Jaro (1:15:02) were John Onifa (1:16:04), Alden Doronilla (1:18:22), Berden Ansiong Jr. (1:19:31), Bennie Murillo (1:20:53), John Jacinto (1:21:30), Jofel Jabagat (1:23:14), Nestor Salido (1:23:23), and Rene Ello (1:24:42).
Behind Ganzon (1:32:35) in the women’s race were Stephanie Gadozale (1:38:38), Helen Ison (1:39:33), Marie Jayson (1:39:49), Ann Tubal (1:40:57), Jenie Estopa (1:46:38), Sheran Dalipe (1:46:37), Cheche Salcepuedes (1:53:47), Wilma Lugay (1:54:03), and Mhel Rojas (1:54:41).
In the 5k, the top three finishers in the men’s race were Alfrence Braza, Acechael Masiderio and Alberto Guiao while Mary Joy Barcoma, Edraine Celestial and Tricia Rufano composed the top three in the women’s race.
In the 3k, Khister Besa, Gavin Gargarita and Joruss Delgado led the men’s race while Lyka Angele Manimbayan, Clarefel Segura and Lovelie Joy Melliza dominated the distaff side.
A total of 18,567 runners participated in the Iloilo qualifying leg, among them Iloilo City acting mayor Jose Espinosa III and Milo Philippines sports executive Robbie de Vera.
Among schools, Iloilo National High School had the most participants with 3,305, followed by Iloilo City National High School (3,078) and University of Iloilo (1,687)./PN
