BACOLOD City — A three-year-old girl died while two others were injured after an electric bicycle (e-bike) was involved in a three-vehicle collision with a passenger bus and a taxi in Silay City, Negros Occidental on June 1.
The accident occurred at around 3:40 p.m. at the junction of Rizal Highway and Bangga Bulangan Road in Barangay 5, according to the Silay City Police Station.
Police said the victim was riding an e-bike with a four-year-old girl and the vehicle’s driver when the crash happened.
All three were rushed to the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital (TLJPH) for medical treatment. However, the three-year-old girl was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Initial investigation showed that a northbound passenger bus traveling from Bacolod City to the municipality of E.B. Magalona sideswiped a Toyota Vios taxi that was reportedly attempting to make a U-turn.
The impact caused the bus to veer into an e-bike that had stopped on the inner lane of the southbound side of the highway and was preparing to make a left turn, police said.
The collision threw the e-bike driver and his two young nieces onto the concrete pavement, resulting in injuries.
Authorities have yet to release information on the condition of the four-year-old girl and the e-bike driver.
The drivers of the bus and the taxi were brought to the Silay City Police Station for questioning as authorities determine liability for the incident.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing./PN
