
ILOILO City – An early evening fire on Friday hit 35 houses in Zone 2, Barangay Tanza Timawa, City Proper.
Data from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) showed 22 of the houses were totally damaged.
The initial data, however, is still up for validation.
The fire broke out around 6:11 p.m. and was declared under control around 6:49 p.m.
There were no reported injuries or deaths as of this writing.
It was not clear yet where the fire originated and what caused it.
This fire was the second biggest to hit this city so far this year. The first was on March 11 – over 60 houses were gutted in Barangay Old Airport, Mandurriao district.
No casualties or injuries were recorded but the blaze displaced an estimated 107 families.
The fire broke out at around 5:29 p.m. Firefighters placed it under control by 6:43 p.m.
The displaced families temporarily sought shelter at the Mandurriao Elementary School.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) extended assistance to the fire victims – sleeping bags, packs of food from the city government’s community kitchen, 40osquito nets, and blankets./PN
