ILOILO City – “My dad is ready.”
This was the response of Isabel Espinosa, youngest daughter of former Iloilo City mayor Jose Espinosa III, when asked why his dad should be elected as the next congressman of this southern city.
A Q&A segment with Isabel was part of Friday’s virtual proclamation rally for Espinosa’s candidacy.
Isabel, 20 years old and a second year Legal Management student, said her father has been preparing for this time his whole life in public service.
“I think it’s time that we elect a person, a leader who is not in it for the money or power,” Isabel said citing that his father grew up with the poor and doesn’t actually mind living a simple life.
During his proclamation speech, Espinosa laid down his plans and priorities if he gets elected as Iloilo City’s representative to Congress. These included more jobs, overall welfare and education.
Isabel, meanwhile, believes that his dad, a lawyer by profession, has the capabilities and the right knowledge for the job.
“Being a congressman, you have to create laws, amend laws…dapat you have the capabilities and the right knowledge. Bonus gid na ya nga kabalo ka kon ano imo obrahon,” she said.
“We need someone to represent Iloilo City nga maka-bring something to the table like ma-realize man sang people nga Iloilo City can help man for the betterment of this country,” she added.
According to Isabel, his dad is not a politician but a leader.
“There is really a difference between a politician and a leader –a politician is someone who is in it for the power. A leader is someone who listens and someone who truly represents his people,” she emphasized.
“I hope you give my dad a chance because he will really serve as a better representative of this city,” said Isabel./PN
