3ID logs 19 rebel encounters in 4 months, 15 killed

ILOILO City – The 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) of the Philippine Army in Western Visayas recorded 19 encounters with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in 57 operations in the past four months.

According to their data from January to April, 15 NPA rebels had been killed and two captured.

According to 3ID spokesperson, Major Cenon Pancito III, the encounters were a big blow to the rebels who continue to struggle against the national army.

Pancito said many of the former NPA rebels gave their allegiance to the government.

Commander of 3ID, Major General Eric Vinoya said that operations this past year cleared 84 communities from terrorist influence.

According to Vinoya, the community clearing will further lead to a resolution of socio-economic issues and a sustained development.

He added that they were able to induce numerous surrenders from both guerrilla members and CCP-NPA supporters.

“I congratulate each and every member of the 3ID,” said Vinoya, “for a very productive year that has been added to the glorious name of the division, especially those accorded with much deserved awards and recognition, I also reiterate my challenge to my men. We are almost there and the finish line is already in sight. We must do each of our part, we must give it our best shot, and let us finish the task at hand”./PN
